Question: What can I enter in the Claw Foot Portal?
Answer: First of all, the Claw Foot Portal is the empty box at the bottom of the screen after you go to Live TV and enter 243-Zones. Here are some things you can enter in there:
DISABLE DISK SPINDOWN makes it so that your hard drive still spins when the unit is off. The constant noise is found by many to be less distracting in their sleep than the regular spin up and spin down. Use ENABLE DISK SPINDOWN to change it back.
PLAY CONTINUOUSLY will add a Play Continuously menu item to your Playback options. Enter it again to turn it off.
TIC TAC TOE will allow you to play Tic Tac Toe by pressing 111-Zones.
ME LIKE COOKIES will show you a short hidden message.
MODESTO GIRL will make all your red circles look like hearts instead permanently. This happens automatically on Valentine's Day.
SPORTSGUARD ON enables a special soft padding feature on sports shows, configured in the same place as the default recording options. SPORTSGUARD OFF turns it back off.
SHOWGUARD ON enables a special soft padding feature on regular shows. SHOWGUARD OFF turns is back off.

Justin Leavens added on 12/10/2002: TIC TAC TOE also gives you the game choices "Snake" and "Thermonuclear War" :*)
I don't think Sportsguard or Showguard work in the version 4.0 software...
ME LIKE COOKIES is worth typing in.
Also, make sure to try this, one of the best easter eggs of the Replay:
Menu:Setup
Then hit 888 ReplayZones.
AlanW added on 01/08/2003: Easter Egg doesn't seem to function on the 3000 series RTV (jleavens: no, this was added in the 4000 series and remains in the 5000 series)
xstrym added on 03/10/2003: I have an pv-hs2000 and "Showguard" doesn't seem to have any effect when I type it in. "Sportsguard" seems to work, however.
jleavens writes: I mentioned that in another FAQ the other day. Neither my 3000, 4000, or 5000 units recognize "SHOWGUARD ON" or "SHOWGUARD OFF" commands. Not sure if this was ever actually connected to the CFP or if it was just unsupported in code.
Greg Vaeth added on 06/07/2003: Maybe this is real obvious, but if CFP entries do not require a keyboard, how do you get the pop-up keyboard to come up? If keyboard is required, should state this explicitly. Don't see this in any of the hits using keyboard or portal in the search field.
jleavens writes: If you move into the CFP area and hit select, a keyboard pops up on screen. Same keyboard you get if you are searching for a show....
Scottamus added on 09/01/2003: Additional commands for 5.0:
BESMART - Toggles "Smart record options"
Response "Enjoy the Buffiness"
Apparently, the folks at RTV are big fans of the following shows: Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Alias, Coupling, Farscape, Firefly, and Smallville. With Smart Record on, certain default record options will be used when you try to record any of these shows. For example, quality is set to High and Category is set to "Buffy." This feature also makes your RTV "smart" about Movies and Sports, recording them at HIGH and in the "Movies" or "Sports" categories (respectively) by default.
SNAPSHOT - Toggles Snapshot mode
Response "Snapshots ON - hit RECORD to take a video snapshot"
This takes a snapshot of the current video (minus any OSD). The resulting .BMP is placed in your Photo parition, under the /Snapshot folder. Apparently, ReplayTV's photo slideshow does not support bitmaps, so you will have to use DVArchive 2.1+ or QVision to view these snapshots.
SCREENSHOT - Toggles Screenshot mode
Response "Screenshots ON - hit RECORD to take an OSD screenshot"
This takes a screenshot of the currently visible OSD only, no video. Same.
MeLikeCookie added on 10/06/2003: Type 'THEME PRIORITY' into the clawfoot portal and you can prioritize theme recordings from 1 (highest) to 99 (lowest). This is good for when you have multiple theme recordings that may come up at the same time - you can control which show gets recorded.
Dennis added on 10/28/2003: I think you should add the "Theme Priority" feature to this set of facts. You have it listed elsewhere, but ALL clawfoot portal commands should be listed toghether.
jleavens writes: Ah, yes. Added in 5.1 "THEME PRIORITY" will give your theme recording setup dialog an additional field that allows you to set a conflict priority value between 1 and 99 (lowest is higher priority).

Does anyone remember how to change the menu/bacground colors on the pv-hs2000 series?
