New utility: RTVConvert Admin

corner_ul_left.gif corner_ul_right.gif corner_ur_left.gif corner_ur_right.gif

posted by jleavens [admin@replayfaqs.com] on 04/08/2006 at 5:32 PM from the Tips department

John Rivera sent us a note about a new Windows utility he's created called RTVConvert Admin

What is it?
RTVConvert Admin (RTVCA) is a freeware Windows XP/2000 application that helps ReplayTV 5K users who use Dvarchive (DVA) and a video editor ( e.g. to remove commercials) and wish to bring these edited videos back into DVArchive.

What does it do?
After the user has edited the mpeg(s) with a video editor (Womble, VideoRedoPlus, etc.), the following process is automated:

1) Run rtvconvert on all edited videos with a filename ending with _CUT, sending the output .mpg/.ndx/.evt files to a specific directory, either:
a) DVArchive Local Guide, if the matching xml was found
b) User specified path which will hold files to be imported by DVA, if the matching xml was not found.
- The destination files will end with a _rtvcvrted suffix.

2) Delete the post-edited, rtvconvert-source mpg.

3) Delete or Backup (user option) the original, unedited .mpg/.ndx/.evt/.xml files.

4) Modify the matching DVA .xml file (if found) to insert the new filename and proper time in seconds.

5) Rename the original .xml file to match the rtvconverted mpeg file name.

It can be downloaded here:

Love to see new tools created for Replay users!

Well, it's been 3 1/2 months since ReplayTV announced its plans for a software-only version of the ReplayTV to work with Hauppauge's WinTV-PVR tuner-encoder card, and we haven't heard much about it. We're hearing rumors, but if you've got tidbits to share, let us know.

If you haven't noticed, the Channel Guide dots will display as hearts instead of circles today on Valentine's Day. They will only display on 2/14, but will display for the entire guide listing.

You can check this out the rest of the year by using the Clawfoot Portal command MODESTO GIRL - for history on that, take a look at the whole story behind the Clawfoot Portal!

ReplayTV Partnering With Broadcom

corner_ul_left.gif corner_ul_right.gif corner_ur_left.gif corner_ur_right.gif

posted by jleavens on 01/04/2005 at 4:48 PM from the Tips department

Tim Farley's been reading the news lately and came across another announcement:

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 4, 2005-- D&M Holdings Inc. (TSE II 6735), a global leader in premium consumer electronics, today announced that it has selected Broadcom Corporation's advanced chipsets for its next-generation products. Broadcom's solution will enable D&M Holdings to launch a new line of innovative digital home entertainment products including HD Digital Video Recorders and media server products.

D&M Holdings' Advanced Center for Technologies (ACT) will utilize Broadcom's advanced digital chipsets along with the technologies of its ReplayTV and Escient business units to integrate DVR software, electronic TV program guides, music jukebox software, movie music and data services in new products. The ACT business group is developing the platform for products to be marketed under several D&M brands worldwide. ACT also will make the D&M platform and software solutions available to select external partners.

Lots of rumblings, but if they're still picking chipsets it doesn't sound like there's any product announcements in the near future. CES is coming up soon, so maybe we'll get a clue then. Of course, last year's Best In Show winner, the Denon NS-S100 multimedia center doesn't seem to have ever shipped...

ReplayTV Partnering with Tribune Media Services

corner_ul_left.gif corner_ul_right.gif corner_ur_left.gif corner_ur_right.gif

posted by jleavens on 12/31/2004 at 2:35 PM from the News department

FAQs reader Tim Farley pointed us to this story about a partnership between D&M (owner of ReplayTV) and Tribune Media Services (who provides guide listings):

The joint solutions available from D&M Holdings (D&M) and Tribune Media Services (TMS) will feature TMS' IPG, based on a 3-D graphics presentation engine that takes full advantage of high-definition TVs. The solutions will be delivered via D&M's back-end infrastructure and communications networks currently used to manage and update data and software for ReplayTV and Rio customers. D&M's delivery and client management system allows for two-way communication with end devices and gives CE manufacturers the ability to download new software to devices and/or enable transaction-driven features, content and other opportunities.

...

Bernie Sepaniak, president of D&M Holdings' Rio, ReplayTV, Escient and ACT business units, noted: "By linking our established client management/delivery systems and know-how in embedded DVR applications with Tribune Media Services' embedded IPG and comprehensive TV listings data, we will provide manufacturers richer and more useful solutions for connected products. This joint offering also gives CE makers great freedom to differentiate themselves in terms of presentation interface, features and services."

Not exactly the product announcements we've been waiting for, but at least it shows that ReplayTV isn't dead yet. Enough for a happy new year?

Subscription Discounts for Multiple Units

corner_ul_left.gif corner_ul_right.gif corner_ur_left.gif corner_ur_right.gif

posted by jleavens on 09/18/2004 at 11:39 PM from the News department

According to a new release from Replay: http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/replaytv/multifaq.asp

In addition to our $12.95 monthly subscription or $299 product lifetime option, ReplayTV now offers a $6.95 discounted rate for consumers with more than one active unit.

ReplayTV owners with more than one active unit registered on the same account are eligible to receive a rate of $6.95 for up to five additional units that are billed on a monthly cycle. An active unit is any generation ReplayTV or Panasonic Show Stopper unit actively receiving the ReplayTV service via either a monthly, lifetime or prepaid/bundled subscription.

Effective with its September 25th, 2004 billing cycle ReplayTV will automatically convert accounts that have multiple units and at least one unit receiving a monthly subscription to the new discounted multi unit monthly price.

For consumers who have multiple monthly subscription units, ReplayTV will apply the discount to the units with the highest monthly fee first.

In the event a household later reduces their number of active units to one, billing rates will automatically return to the rates received before the multiple unit discount.

The service fee discount is limited to units billed on a monthly basis. However consumers who have both a lifetime unit and a monthly unit are eligible for the reduced rate on their monthly unit.

Apparently the discount kicks in with any other registered unit, though it doesn't specifically say if that includes 2000 or 3000 units. Trying to get a straight answer on this now. [Followup - the answer is yes, you can get the discount with an older model]

ReplayTV-afficianado l8r has done an excellent job of detailing the hard drive upgrade process at his website: http://www.grandallusion.com

There are a ton of pictures showing how to perform single and dual-drive upgrades on your ReplayTV, with lots of links to other resources as well.

Drive upgrades are fairly easy to do yourself, and having all these great pictures and instructions make it even easier. A big thanks to l8r for all his documentation and research on this!
